EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative 2009 Key Sessions Streamed Live With Mediasite

Live webcasting by Sonic Foundry’s Event Services supports the higher education conference’s ‘social learning for the 21st century’ focal point.

Madison, WI - January 21, 2009 - Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), the global leader for enterprise webcasting and knowledge management, today announced that the company's Event Services group will be hosting live webcasts of key sessions at the 2009 EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative Annual Meeting. This premier higher education information technology event focusing on advancing learning through IT innovation is being held January 20-22 in Orlando, Florida.

The conference, themed "Participation and Collaboration: Social Learning for the 21st Century," will explore processes and practices focusing on social learning and student success. Recording and streaming the sessions both live and on-demand with Mediasite will give attendees more flexibility in choosing whether to attend sessions in person, or view from their homes or offices if they are unable to attend in person.

"One of the most valuable things about this conference is the ability to exchange ideas, and streaming sessions live with Mediasite will help us make that possible. Whether individuals are on-site or off, they can get information, become engaged, and identify potential collaborators," said Julie K. Little, interim director of the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative. "We appreciate Sonic Foundry's support as both An EDUCAUSE Gold Partner and our webcasting service since 2004, and we're anticipating that these enhancements will provide greater accessibility and a deeper learning experience for those attending the conference and those watching on campus."

Mediasite is able to increase availability, reduce travel, boost retention, and minimize costs with its state-of-the-art webcasting and knowledge management system. The patented Mediasite system quickly and cost-effectively automates the capture, management, delivery and search of rich media presentations that combine audio, video and accompanying graphics for live or on-demand viewing.

All general and featured session speakers will be recorded, including Constance Steinkuehler, assistant professor in educational communications and technology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, discussing "Virtual Worlds as Naturally Occurring Online Learning Environments." Other marked speakers include Michael Wesch, Beth Cate, Kurt Squire, Laurence F. Johnson, Scot A. French, Geri Gay, George B. Adams III, Gerri Sinclair, Carl F. Berger, and moderator Deborah Bickford along with her panelists Carole Wedge, Marvin Malecha, and Shannon Ritter.
