Sonic Foundry Ships 2000th Mediasite Recorder to University of Southern California

Mediasite Recorder installed in the Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy as part of USC’s campus wide technology enhanced learning and distance education initiative
MADISON, WI — Sonic Foundry® Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), a leader in automated rich media communications technology, today announced the 2000th Mediasite® Recorder has been purchased by the University of Southern California as part of the university’s campus wide rollout of the Mediasite webcasting and content management platform.

Beginning in the fall 2006 semester, USC completed 19 technology enhanced learning and distance education classrooms between its Health Sciences Campus, Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles and University Park Campus, each with the capacity to offer up to 20 classes per week. The USC Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, ranked #1 in US News and World Report for the last eight years, was the recipient of the 2000th Mediasite Recorder, bringing USC’s total number of Mediasite-enabled classrooms to 27.

Lecturer podiums and presentation stages are installed with instruction computers, document cameras and electronic whiteboards with Mediasite housed in adjacent control rooms. The classrooms provide a variety of unique opportunities for the student to explore and consume their professors’ teachings, and for the professors to expand upon, improve and invigorate their pedagogical techniques.

Since its introduction in 2003, Sonic Foundry’s Mediasite has set the standard as a transformational communication medium for delivering critical information and sharing knowledge. Trusted by education and health institutions, corporations and government, the patented Mediasite webcasting and content management system quickly and cost-effectively automates the capture, management, delivery and search of rich media presentations that combine audio, video and accompanying graphics for live or on-demand viewing.

“As colleges aggressively seek new ways to remain competitive, mediasiting faculty instruction becomes a powerful differentiator for universities like the University of Southern California,” said Rimas Buinevicius, chairman and CEO of Sonic Foundry. “It is with great pleasure that we mark the shipment of our 2000th Mediasite Recorder to an institution like USC, a university that is breaking new ground by incorporating the latest classroom-to-web technology to deliver a superior education environment for today’s student.”
