LG Electronics technicians are always on the go. Their time is precious and they can’t take hours out of their day to attend training sessions. They need the information fast and when it’s convenient for them.

So LG, which employs 87,000 people in 113 locations around the world, created a new eLearning department last year to offer real-time training to its service technicians in the field in U.S. and Canada by integrating Mediasite into its learning management system, Moodle.

The department, based in Huntsville, Ala., creates informational webcasts via Mediasite for service technicians, call center staff and human resources employees to stay up to date with trends and new innovative LG products. Employees can watch the training anytime, anywhere and from any device.

The eLearning department is part of LG’s overall training center, which also does in-person trainings in the field and at its headquarters.

Since LG deployed Mediasite in July 2013, it’s created hundreds of presentations that have received 4,500 views. The content is hosted in the Mediasite Cloud, providing a worry-free option for video streaming and content management.

“For Sonic Foundry to store and manage our video content has been incredible. We have found that Mediasite is essential for delivering the message and delivering beautiful video content to the technicians,” said Dawn Boyd, manager of eLearning at LG.

Two videographers use Mediasite to record the presentations from a variety of locations — in homes, in the field and in LG’s custom-built home showroom studio.

“Coming from a local news TV station background, Mediasite is like my live TV broadcast truck. It helps me reach technicians through the training they’re getting from it," said Madison Guess, one of the videographers.
