Delft University of Technology - Netherlands

It all started with a question from the faculty of physics.

Could it do something with classes on video tape? The answer was yes, with Mediasite.

Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands uses Mediasite to maintain international standing in education and research. This oldest and largest technical university in the Netherlands has international renown for its high standards in education and research, but there was a growing demand to create an efficient digital learning environment to remain competitive.

The university created a campus initiative, Collegerama, using Mediasite by Sonic Foundry for lecture capture. The university is capturing thousands of hours of lectures, presentations and keynote speakers, which have received over 115,000 visits within their online catalogs.

"Students couldn't get into required classes. There wasn't enough room, enough tutors, enough support or enough money. There were simply not enough hours in a day," said Leon Huijbers, staff manager of the Campus Congress Centre and multimedia department. "The new generation of students gets motivated in a different way, with different devices. These are non-linear thinkers who get their information from digital sources, such as the internet, blogs and online communities."
