Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center
In less than six months, the Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center increased enrollment by 50 percent. How they did so is no mystery -- by installing and utilizing Sonic Foundry's Mediasite, to capture and distribute online learning for their certificate and continuing education programs.
The center was established in 1958 and has graduated over 2,500 orthotic and prosthetic practitioners, almost 50 percent of the profession. Unfortunately, it was losing money every year. The cost of simply being in existence rose and there weren't many options for breaking even, let along set aside financial reserves. Then the center discovered Mediasite. The center decided to integrate distance education into its program so that more classes could be offered.
Currently, it is offering lecture content via Mediasite to graduate students in residency and is planning international events with Mediasite to reduce travel costs.
"We're finding new uses for Mediasite all the time," said Jodi Fox, director of distance learning. "Our students love the control and flexibility that it offers and we find we're limited only by our imagination. We're very happy and pleased to have Sonic Foundry as a partner in our success."
