Scholastic Achievement Finalist - Pittsburgh Public Schools

Pittsburgh Public Schools in Pennsylvania use Mediasite for a variety of applications. But one thing is for sure - the technology has allowed the schools to expand communication to staff, students and the community.

The schools' staff development center uses Mediasite two or three times each month to record presentations that are streamed live or on-demand. It also uses the platform in situations where not everyone is able to fit in one building for a presentation, so it is streamed live for everyone to watch regardless of their location. But its most important use involves school board meetings. At least twice a month the board of education uses Mediasite to record and stream live and on-demand its meetings. This allows people in Pittsburgh and anywhere around the world to see what's happening in the meetings.

"I think the biggest impact of using rich media and in this case with MediaSite Live [TM] has been we are able now to give the end user a presentation that not only shows a talking head or a table of people but also shows the presentation that person was giving. Before MediaSite Live [TM] came into our lives we were very bland for lack of a better way to say it. Many of the people, both administrators and the board, have been very supportive of this," said David Skalniak, media specialist and manager of media services for the district.
