San Antonio College

Scholastic Achievement Finalist - San Antonio College

San Antonio College, part of one of the largest community college systems in the country, Alamo Colleges, has about 26,000 students enrolled and is the largest single-campus community colleges in Texas. As enrollment grew and resources shrank, the college sought innovative yet affordable technology solutions to increase student access, improve student success, and provide a medium for professional development.

For Mona Aldana-Ramirez of San Antonio College, Mediasite was the answer. Mediasite is used to help teachers excel and it is the main communication line to faculty, students and the community.

Among Mediasite's many uses at the college is improving scholastic achievement. A teaching with technology grant allowed the college to use Mediasite to increase student achievement at public schools. The college worked with public school teachers to train them in classroom technologies.

"We learned that the teachers were apprehensive when it came to too much technology too quickly. So we had to figure out a way to capture that," said Aldana-Ramirez.

The college used Mediasite to capture training workshops, which allowed teachers to go back and watch them when they needed to refresh their memories. The college developed how-to video snippets on-demand so teachers could review them in the classroom whenever they wanted.

"Mediasite allowed us to help our teachers become better teachers and help the students achieve," she said.

The college also uses Mediasite to help students learn foreign languages with repetition. Students can hear the words and phrases outside of the classroom using Mediasite. They can review classroom discussions and hear the professor say the words.

These are just a few of the many ways San Antonio College excels with Mediasite.
