A few years ago the New Zealand Ministry of Education released the Ka Hikitia - Managing for Success: The Maori Education Strategy 2008-2012, a plan to help Maori students realize their potential via educational excellence. The New Zealand educational curriculum was refreshed to emphasize new technology opportunities and highlight their vision to encourage creative energetic and enterprising young Maori.

But The Ministry had difficulties delivering the new curriculum and professional development to teachers across the large educational landscape. Many languages are spoken, and school districts range from populated metropolitan areas like Auckland, to Northland, one of New Zealand's most remote regions.

Mark Dashper from the University of Auckland, Faculty Education, works with an organization called Team Solutions, and they began using Mediasite to deliver the school support services. It is a free service to schools to help them learn the new curriculum.

Using Mediasite, Team Solutions develops webcasts in three formats: material from curriculum specialists, webcasts from educators and conversations with current students.

"The purpose of this is to encourage the move away from silos of knowledge and look more holistically as student ideas need development through the curriculum learning. The materials we present help schools develop their own programs in response to the students' needs and the diversity of the culture or the community," Dashper said.
