University of Houston

The Central IT/Media Services department at the University of Houston just couldn't find a rich media delivery system that was reliable, scalable and flexible enough to meet its needs. That is, until it discovered Mediasite

"Mediasite means flexible installation capabilities, which affords our customers in the departments and colleges around the university to focus on their core competencies including research, business operations or lecturing," said Greg Jonason, digital media developer and Mediasite Campus administrator. "This leaves the technical support to university information technology. The flexibility also allows us, with some training and guidance, to pass on various tasks to support entities within those colleges and departments."

The university also found its branding solution in Mediasite. Branding is important for the university because each college and department that uses Mediasite is unique, but as a university family, it wants to be unified in its goal.

"Mediasite enables us to customize the brand we want to showcase," Jonason said.

Each college or department also is able to customize the way it uses the webcasting platform. The College of Technology has a fully automated process that allows faculty to simply walk up, present and walk away. All administration is done remotely. Some colleges have the ML Recorder and they send a technician along to mic and shoot the speaker, and many special events, including spring and fall commencements, are now recorded and streamed live via Mediasite.
