The most trusted video managementplatform for academic, enterprise and event webcasting
Getting academic leadership, faculty, staff and students on the same page for any IT initiative can be a daunting task, but the University of Maryland, Baltimore Dental School knows exactly what to do to create a successful campus-wide lecture capture initiative.
The dental school is now capturing lectures and other educational content with Mediasite, and it has caught on fast. But it has moved beyond the traditional lecture capture format by replacing the video of the presenter with streaming videos of the slides, and later, it began using Mediasite to present live video demonstrations to student work stations. There's an online library of clinical simulations that can be replayed at any time.
"Using Mediasite in this manner has revolutionized the way in which the dental school now uses the technology. Rather than exist solely as a lecture capture service, we have expanded the role of Mediasite to include hosting for in-house video production, live streaming and archival of simulation exercises and as a launching pad for showcasing dental specific software," said Doug Brotherton, instructional technology specialist at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Dental School.
In the fall of 2007, less than a year after the implementation of Mediasite, there were 600 captures recorded accessed over 48,000 times between August and December of 2007.
"One student summed up the Mediasite experience stating, 'Keep it coming, seriously. It is the source of my academic success. My grades would really suffer if I didn't have Mediasite,' " Brotherton said. "With feedback like that, how can you not continue to push the boundaries?"
