A century ago workers in British Columbia faced primitive and dangerous working conditions, with no recourse if they were injured on the job. In 1917, the Workmen's Compensation Board was created, and today that's WorkSafeBC, an independent agency dedicated to promoting workplace health and safety in British Columbia.
WorkSafeBC works with and educates employers and workers. It also monitors compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. There are 15 offices across the large province, and dispersing information and training to all staff members at the same time was difficult. Enter Mediasite.
Using Mediasite, industry seminars, conferences and training sessions are now streamed across the province.
"We are able to send Mediasite out to these events wherever they may be," said Clare Connolly, senior learning advisor at WorkSafeBC. "We record them and upload them to our intranet, allowing us to send accurate information quickly and straight from the mouths of industry experts to all of our area offices at the same time, which is important when you're dealing with safety and people's lives."
WorkSafeBC also created a lunch-and-learn program, held in the auditorium at the head office in Richmond. This weekly initiative features guest speakers from all over Canada that educate employees during their lunch breaks. Employees from all over the province can access these presentations at their convenience via Mediasite.
