Zorgportaal Rijnmond in the Netherlands Educates the Public About Health Issues via Webcasts

Due to the high cost of healthcare in the Netherlands, many patients are getting less quality time with their doctors. Enter Care Portal Rijnmond, which is quickly becoming the place to find the health and welfare information in the Rijnmond region. The portal is a secure website where patients and healthcare professionals exchange information quickly and easily to make for a more efficient and high quality patient experience.

The portal uses Mediasite to deliver webcasts to the public to increase their understanding of certain health conditions, since often it’s difficult to remember everything your doctor says during a short office visit. This goes hand-in-hand with the portal’s goal – to make healthcare more efficient by using e-learning solutions. 

The webcasting program, called ZorgInfo TV, involves interactive video information via a secure internet connection. For example, patients and their families can prepare for a consultation by watching a webcast in advance, which in turn creates an opportunity for more quality time with the doctor to discuss questions they have. Viewers can also submit questions during the broadcast to the presenter. 

“The primary benefit of using Mediasite is a more dedicated and a better informed patient. This results in more self-management,” said Florian Visser, project leader for the portal.
