Charleston Area Medical Center to Share How Web Communication Transforms Treatment of Disease at Health Information Technology Summit

MADISON, WI — MEDIA ADVISORY

WHO: Doug Young, media network specialist, Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC).

WHAT: Charleston Area Medical Center provides patients with the latest care and treatment options using Sonic Foundry's Mediasite web communications technology. The professionals at CAMC believe in delivering quality health-related information to every medical professional and resident in the state of West Virginia. As a largely rural state with one of the highest diabetes and obesity rates in the country, the ability to provide a convenient online information-rich resource to physicians across the state is of critical importance to the health and well being of thousands of residents. The CAMC turned to web communications as a tool for improving the quality of training and continuing education for medical personnel at its three local area hospitals. Its recipe for success centers on the ability to stream media content to local and distant participants live and on-demand through Mediasite.

Since beginning to use rich media, the CAMC has been able to achieve its goal of offering quality medical education to both the medical community and the general public. In addition, safer medical practices have been explored which CAMC believes has resulted in lives being saved.

Attendees will learn first hand how to develop and maintain a web communications solution in a healthcare setting. ROI and the development of partnerships with other healthcare affiliated organizations will be explored. Also, Young will demonstrate how web communications can be used to lower the overall cost of healthcare to the consumer.
