Sonic Foundry and Res Rocket in Discussions

Sonic Foundry, Inc. (AMEX: SFO) today announced that it is in discussions with Res Rocket regarding support for their Rocket Network[TM] API Internet-based real-time collaboration software. The discussions center on adapting one or more of Sonic Foundry's award-winning products for use over the Rocket Network.

Development efforts would center on providing an interface and music generating capability through the Sonic Foundry product offering, with audio delivery and synchronization handled via the Rocket Network software. Ultimately, users would have the ability to collaborate live, delivering and receiving studio-quality music to or from anyone around the world using standard PC hardware, software, and an Internet connection.

Rocket Network's software allows users to meet, chat, and jam with musicians from anywhere around the world, all enabled through an Internet connection. The second version of the Rocket Network client software, RocketControl[TM] (formerly called DRGN), will be available by summer of 1999. Key new features being added include cross-application, cross-platform support so users can access public and private virtual studios and collaborate from any application with "RocketPower[TM]." In addition, the new version will add digital audio capability as well as support compression formats such as MPEG-3.

Sonic Foundry's ACID[TM] is a software-based program designed to assemble different sound elements and automatically match the pitch and tempo of dissimilar recordings. Sonic Foundry president Monty Schmidt commented, "ACID has opened up a whole new age in music making by allowing both musicians and non-musicians alike to create quality royalty-free music without the need to understand classic composition methods. Enabling the ACID product line with Rocket Network Technology will allow these same users the ability to collaborate with each other, musically, regardless of location. It's a very exciting concept."

"We are looking forward to helping software developers incorporate the Rocket Network API into their products. We want as many applications to communicate via the Rocket Network API as possible, extending the reach of this new important industry standard," stated Willy Henshall, CEO of Res Rocket, Inc.
