The most trusted video managementplatform for academic, enterprise and event webcasting
Sonic Foundry, Inc. (Nasdaq: SOFO), the leading developer and marketer of digital media and Internet software tools, services, and systems, today announced that Sonic Foundry Media Services[TM] and Akamai Technologies teamed to provide a breakthrough webcast of streaming media from Santa Monica Beach for viewing at NAB 2000 in Las Vegas, NV.
Sonic Foundry Media Services manned cameras from a local hotel to capture compelling Santa Monica Beach images. The captured content was encoded and optimized in real time by Sonic Foundry. Sonic Foundry then directed the media to a satellite network provider where it was sent to Akamai Technologies for streaming via their FreeFlowSM Streaming service network for distribution at NAB 2000 in Las Vegas. This live streaming event demonstrated the first ever seamless stream from satellite to terrestrial network with real-time decision monitoring.
"Sonic Foundry Media Services was able to provide its high-quality encoding and webcasting services to make this first time web event possible," stated Jeff Conover, vice president of marketing for Sonic Foundry. "Together with Akamai Technologies, we are forging ahead in developing new, state-of-the-art live event broadcasting techniques to offer viewers around the world a greater variety of online entertainment options."
"True broadband streaming requires a hybrid implementation of terrestrial and satellite delivery," said Dan Fraisl, vice president and general manager of streaming at Akamai. "Our work with best-of-breed companies like Sonic Foundry have enabled Akamai to pioneer this form of streaming media delivery."
