Sonic Foundry's ACID PRO Provides Music Creation Platform for the 2000 Oscar Ceremonies

Sonic Foundry, Inc. (Nasdaq: SOFO), the leading developer and marketer of digital media and Internet software tools, services, and systems, announced that its ACID[TM] PRO 2.0 music creation software was used by Oscar music producer David Was to create the musical underscore for the 2000 Oscar nomination announcements during last night's Oscar telecast. The 2000 Oscar ceremony is the first to use this technology-based musical platform in place of a traditional orchestra.

"Because this was the first year that the Oscar ceremonies employed new media musical formats, I wanted to use a tool that combined a powerful and creative platform with high-productivity," stated David Was, Oscar music producer. "Sonic Foundry's ACID PRO 2.0 allowed me to make distinctive, unique music with incredible speed and ease. The producers were blown away! ACID PRO and other Sonic Foundry software will be used for many more of my musical projects. Believe that!"

"This is an exciting landmark for our ACID software," stated Jeff Conover, vice president of marketing for Sonic Foundry. "We are honored that David Was, a truly accomplished producer, used ACID PRO for the Oscars and will use our other software products for his upcoming audio projects. This highlights our position as the leading provider of software tools for the creation, editing, and delivery of audio."

About David Was

David Was co-created the band, Was (Not Was), with his partner Don Was. The band released five albums spawning 6 top ten singles worldwide, landing themselves near the top of critics' polls from the Village Voice to Rolling Stone, which named their '88 album, "What Up, Dog?" one of the Top 10 albums of that year and one of the best 100 albums of the 1980's. David and Don collaborated on the production of Bob Dylan's 1990 album, "Under the Red Sky," and the Grammy-winning Roy Orbison / K.D. Lang duet of "Crying." The two are working on their sixth album.

Alone, David Was executive-produced the million selling "Songs in the Key of X," the Warner Bros. released soundtrack from Fox's hit television show, "The X-Files." David Was also acted as the executive producer and music supervisor on "The X-Files" feature film soundtrack for Elektra Records, which has sold over 2 million copies globally.
