Back to School with the Creators of the Beloit Mindset List

On Demand

Some facts for you to ponder as you ease you way into the school year: Your freshman students were starting kindergarten when 9/11 happened; “selfies” are preferred over celebrity autographs; they’ve grown up with Harry Potter and there’s a good chance they’ll binge-watch their lectures.

Since 1998 the creators of the Beloit College Mindset List have made it their mission to provide witty and meaningful commentary to give educators a glimpse into the mindset of their freshman students.

Join us for a lively discussion with List creators Ron Nief and Tom McBride. Fresh from their annual media tour they’ll discuss the cultural touchstones that have informed the lives of this year’s college freshmen, reflect on the evolution of educational technology and will answer your most pressing questions about bridging the cultural divide (if there even is one) between the generations. They’ll cover:

  • How technology has accelerated the understanding between generations
  • What they’ve learned over the 17 years they’ve been creating the mindset list
  • Their favorite “Mindset Moments” and how you can leverage them to keep relevant

Over the years the list has spawned two books, countless international news stories, dozens of imitators and even some detractors. All of which, according to the authors, make the conversation more interesting.
