Issue:

This article lists the requirements for viewing Mediasite content on a Mac.

Solution(s):

Mediasite 4.3 and later

  • Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later

  • Safari 2.0.4 or later or Firefox 2.0 or later

  • Silverlight (viewers are prompted to install this when attempting to view a presentation)

  • Broadband Internet connection (256 Kbps or more)

Note: Variable speed playback and multicast are not currently supported in Silverlight. Closed captioning and full screen video via Silverlight are available only in Mediasite 5.0 or later.

Mediasite 4.2 and earlier

Note: Windows Media Player 9 for Mac is not a Universal application and must be run under Rosetta emulation on an Intel-based Mac. As such, the browser must also be forced to run under Rosetta as well. This is a temporary workaround until a practical solution is available.

Steps for configuring the browser to run under Rosetta emulation:

  1. Go to the Applications folder.

  2. Ctrl click the browser icon (e.g. Safari, Firefox) and click "Get info".

  3. Check the box labeled "Open using Rosetta".

The next time the web browser is launched it will run under Rosetta emulation.

Instructions for troubleshooting Mac playback in Mediasite 4.2 and earlier can be found in the following document: Mediasite Presentations on the Mac.

Additional Comments:

  • Please see this KB article for more information about PowerPC Mac support and Silverlight.

  • The Windows Media Audio 9 Voice codec is not supported in the Silverlight player or Flip4Mac plug-in, and the ACELP.net codec is not available for the Mac. Presentations that will be viewed from a Mac should use the standard Windows Media Audio 9 codec.

  • The Flip4Mac plug-in causes problems when viewing Mediasite presentations and should be disabled. See KBA10148 for instructions on how to disable it.

  • HTTP Streaming must be enabled for viewers running the Mac OS or using push distribution
