Silverlight does not support authenticated proxies

KBA10630

Versions: 4.3, 5.0, 5.0.1, 5.0.3, 5.0.4, 5.0.5, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3

Last Reviewed: 01/05/2010

Issue:

Some proxy servers require authentication in order to access the Internet. When you try to play back a presentation using the Mediasite Silverlight player, playback may fail with an error message of:

Unable to play the presentation. The media server may not be available or the media stream format may not be supported. (4001 An error has occurred.)

Solution(s):

Silverlight does not currently provide a means to provide authentication to proxy servers such as these. In order to use the Silverlight-based players, you must bypass your proxy server's authentication, or the proxy server entirely, when accessing the Mediasite video server. Please contact your organization's IT staff for assistance in adding an exception to bypass your proxy server.

If you are unable to have the settings of your proxy server modified, then you can still use the classic HTML-based Mediasite players and view them using Internet Explorer. Playback via this method would continue to work, as proxy authentication would be handled via the web browser. More information about setting up your presentation to use a different Player can be found in the Mediasite Server Guide.
