Silverlight Player support on PowerPC Macs

This article provides further details on the scope of support for PowerPC Macs when using Silverlight based Mediasite Players.

Solution(s):

With the release of Mediasite 5.1, new Players were added that are fully written in Silverlight. These Players require Silverlight version 3 to function. Silverlight 3 is not available for the PowerPC Mac platform, Microsoft has only released it for Intel based Mac systems. This means that these new Mediasite Players will not work on PowerPC Mac systems.

Users who still need to view presentations on PowerPC Macs will need to use the "Classic" Mediasite Players instead. These players will play back on all Macs using Silverlight, and only require Silverlight version 1 or later.

Please note that you can use both the new Silverlight Players and the Classic Players at the same time. This requires you to make a shortcut to your Mediasite Presentation using that alternate player. Then when distributing the links to your end-users, send them both links. Both links play the same content, and serve to provide that content to the broadest range of platforms.
